Referrals

A valid referral is required for a patient to attend a consultation with a medical specialist, in accordance with Medicare requirements.
Referrals from a General Practitioner (GP) are valid for 12 months, and specialist-to-specialist referrals are valid for 3 months (temporary basis), unless otherwise specified.

McCrae Specialist Centre hosts specialists, diagnostic services, and allied health providers who consult on a sessional basis and operate as independent practitioners and services. McCrae Specialist Centre does not employ providers and does not manage clinical services on their behalf.

To ensure appropriate clinical governance, privacy compliance, and continuity of care:

  • Referrers must consult the relevant provider profile for correct contact details

  • All referrals and requests must be sent directly to the provider’s main consulting rooms or central booking office

  • Secure electronic referral systems such as HealthLink, ReferralNet, or equivalent secure messaging platforms should be used wherever possible

Referrals, enquiries, and appointment requests must not be sent to McCrae Specialist Centre by email or fax.
McCrae Specialist Centre does not receive, process, store, or manage clinical referrals, medical records, or appointment requests.

All enquiries, amendments, and cancellations must be directed to the provider’s primary consulting rooms.

Allied Health Referrals

No referral is required to see allied health providers when claiming through private health insurance.

For Medicare-rebated allied health services, patients must be referred under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP).
All GPCCMP referrals must be sent directly to the allied health provider’s main rooms, not to McCrae Specialist Centre.
