Referrals & Care Coordination

A valid referral is required for patients to attend consultations with medical specialists, in accordance with Medicare requirements. GP referrals are valid for 12 months, and specialist-to-specialist referrals are valid for 3 months (temporary basis), unless otherwise specified.

McCrae Specialist Centre hosts specialists, diagnostic services, and allied health providers who consult on a sessional basis and operate as independent practitioners and services. The centre does not employ clinicians and does not manage clinical services on their behalf.

To ensure appropriate governance, privacy compliance, and continuity of care, referrers must refer to each provider profile for correct contact details. All referrals must be sent directly to the provider’s main consulting rooms or central booking office. Secure electronic referral systems such as HealthLink, ReferralNet, or equivalent secure messaging platforms should be used wherever possible.

Referrals, enquiries, and appointment requests must not be sent to McCrae Specialist Centre by fax or email. McCrae Specialist Centre does not receive, process, store, or manage clinical referrals, medical records, or appointment requests. All booking requests, amendments, and cancellations must be directed to the provider’s primary consulting rooms.

Allied Health Referrals

No referral is required to access allied health services when patients are claiming through private health insurance.

For Medicare-rebated allied health services, patients must be referred under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP). All GPCCMP referrals must be sent directly to the allied health provider’s main rooms, not to McCrae Specialist Centre.

Some allied health providers may offer bulk billing under GPCCMP arrangements — eligibility and billing arrangements should be confirmed at the time of booking.
